Travel Channel’s ‘Food Paradise’ to feature Townsend eatery

An East Tennessee restaurant will appear on an upcoming episode of the Travel Channel show “Food Paradise.”

The episode, titled “Hotel Hot Spots,” will highlight Townsend’s Dancing Bear Lodge & Appalachian Bistro.

It will air at 8 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 5, on the Travel Channel, which is DIRECTV Channel 277, DISH Channel 196, and Comcast HD Channel 1488 and non-HD Channel 61, according to a press release.

“Food Paradise” features the best restaurants in the United States to find certain types of cuisines or foods.

The show’s production team came to Townsend on June 2 to film the property, restaurant, Executive Chef Shelley Cooper and guests.

“Based on the restaurant’s rave reviews, the Travel Channel contacted Dancing Bear several months ago about featuring The Bistro in their hit series, which focuses on, ‘must-see food spots across the country that offer unique dining experiences,’ the release said.

Dancing Bear Lodge suffered a fire in 2013 that destroyed its main building and restaurant. Owners Mark and Sharon Oldham purchased the property in 2014 and have poured around $3.5 million into renovations, including a new bistro and event space, cabin renovations and plans to add an outdoor event space.

The bistro specializes in Appalachian cuisine. For more information on Dancing Bear Lodge & Appalachian Bistro, visit
