Topgolf seeking Knoxville location, to open in 2020

Topgolf sports entertainment company is seeking a Knoxville location with hopes of opening in 2020.

If plans come to fruition, Topgolf would create 325 jobs in Knoxville. The three-story venue will feature a 1,500 square-foot event space and 72 climate controlled hitting bays able to host six players at a time.

This would be the second Tennessee location. Topgolf opened in Nashville in September with “tremendous success,” Chief Development Officer Chris Callaway said. It has seen more than 135,000 visits and hosted about 1,000 private events.

What is the Topgolf experience?

Topgolf is centered on golf, but the venue is designed to attract golfers and non-golfers of any experience level. Nearly half of Topgolf’s visitors describe themselves as non-golfers, the release said.

“If you love the game of golf, it is an easy way to keep up your skills,” Callaway said. “If you want a way to learn the game of golf, we provide a fun environment to learn.”

Point-scoring golf games use microchipped balls that instantly score themselves and show players the accuracy and distance of their shots on a monitor in each hitting bay.

The venue also would feature a chef driven menu, beverages, television lounges and year-round events.

Is Knoxville seeing a trend?

Giant entertainment destinations like Topgolf are nothing new to Knoxville. Main Event’s summer opening merged bowling, laser tag, an arcade and food all under one roof in West Knoxville.

Veloce indoor go-kart speedway also in West Knoxville and Maple Hall bowling alley downtown are also new to the area.
